The staff at VMS work to develop an appreciation in the children of different cultures through a variety of activities, including recognizing major holidays.

Some years, that’s simply reading books about those holidays, other years, especially when the classes do a year-long unit on Holidays Around the World, these events are explored in depth.  Diwali is no exception, although this year Ms Indira, with Ms Anitha providing back up, added so much to our experience by providing all the classes with Indian items to help bring this holiday to life for the children, from tiny little diyas to the yummy sweetness of halwa.  Right on the heels of Halloween this year, the children were very receptive.
